No More Nipping

Company background

No More Nipping is a company founded by Jay Day and Paula Andrews which specialises in training aids for puppies. The company was born from the tragic death of Reggie Young, who was just three weeks old when he was left unattended by his father along with their young pup who tragically and fatally injured the child at the family home in Sunderland. As well as wanting to lower the statistics from the NHS of dog bites and attacks on a yearly basis, the company wants to raise awareness of the dangers of puppies around young infant children.

Challenge

The company wanted to develop a prototype of a hand-held electronic anti-bite training aid for puppies. The product aids puppy training by emitting an electronically produced bark sound whenever a puppy bites.

Solution

In order to overcome this obstacle, Jay made contact with North West Regional College (NWRC) Business Support Centre (BSC) who supported him through the InnovateUs programme which is funded by the Department for the Economy.

This provided 60 hours of 1:1 mentoring support from NWRC Engineering Technical Consultant, Jonathan Steele, who provided upskilling in SolidWorks 3D CAD, digital fabrication via 3D printing, design communication and photo realistic rendering.

Impact

On completion of the project, the company successfully developed a prototype for an anti-bite training aid for puppies.
