A state-of-the-art product design and prototyping facility, equipped with the latest additive and subtractive manufacturing technology, to transform product ideas into a commercial reality. Offering a complete end-to-end new product development model, innovators can find new markets, develop new product ideas and generate employment opportunities within the sector.

The PDC offers hands on support from its skilled and industry leading engineers, from idea and concept design, 3D CAD development, materials analysis and selection, supplier sourcing and detailed testing to proof of concept prototyping and market ready products.

The PDC team specialises in:
• 3D CAD
• 3D printing, prototype development and animation
• Advanced simulations including finite element stress analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
• Design for manufacturing and assembly
• Digital twin

The PDC’s is equipped state-of-the-art facilities and skills for students, budding entrepreneurs and small businesses needing to upskill in engineering and manufacturing, for example:

• 3D printing farm (over 20 3D printers) and teaching lab
• FDM, SLA & SLS 3D printing processes
• PLA, ABS, Onyx (Carbon Fibre, Kevlar, Nylon 12 & Fibre Glass)
• Engineering and Flexible Resin
• CNC machines for a range of materials from stone and wood to various metals
• Manufacturing and assembly workshop
• 2D & 3D CAD design suites
• Fabrication & welding workshops

The College can offer hands-on support from experienced and skilled engineers. This ranges from general business advice through to detailed research and testing. Our Experts also visit client premises to advise on new product development, process improvement and production efficiencies. With the right expertise, innovators can find new markets, develop new product ideas and generate employment opportunities within the sector.

Prototyping Training School:

This is the first Protoyping Training School in the UK. The Product Design Centre is a unique training environment for those who wish to learn how to create prototypes. This training will take entrepreneurs and innovators to the next level by providing them with the training to succeed in turning their ideas into reality.

The following qualifications are available from the Centre:

– Level 1 Award in Digital Fabrication
– Level 2 Award in Digital Fabrication
– Level 3 Award in Creative Arts and Digital Technologies
– Level 3 Award in Digital Product Design and Manufacture
