NWRC continues to deliver industry support to hospitality businesses in Causeway Coast area

North West Regional College (NWRC) Business Support Centre (BSC) in partnership with Taste Causeway have supported over 38 businesses and  51 employees in the Tourism and Hospitality industry to return to work safely.

NWRC Skills Manager, Sinead Hawkins explained: ”We have developed a new Health and Safety in the Workplace Level 2 course which is accredited by QualSafe to give employers the confidence in providing a safe place for their customers and staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

”The two day course which begins on Monday 20th July covers the basics of Health and Safety guidelines and teaches businesses how to put together risk assessment plans following the changing guidelines of the government in regards to Covid-19. Individual employees who complete the course will  become Safe and Alert Champions and receive their certificates. Businesses will also receive the Safe and Alert branded window sticker which has been instrumental in building customer confidence.”

NWRC Lecturer, Brendan Harley, who delivers the course added: “It has been a very challenging time for hospitality businesses in regards to understanding the government guidelines surrounding Covid-19 and it has been my pleasure to be able to help these businesses with practical support, tools and most importantly risk assessment plans to enable them to return to work and grow in confidence in applying safe working practices.”
The Health and Safety in the Workplace course is fully funded by the Department for the Economy’s Skills Focus Programme.
If you are a business based in Northern Ireland with less than 250 staff and looking to up-skill, you could be eligible for the Department for the Economy’s Skills Focus Programme.
