NWRC launches Graduate Software Testers Programme for Causeway Coast and Glens Area

Graduates were given a boost this week with the launch of North West Regional College’s (NWRC) Graduate Software Testers Programme.

This fully funded programme aims to help 12 people whose lives have been affected by Covid-19 to become qualified Software Testers. In addition to achieving a recognised qualification, participants will also undertake a four week work placement with a business from the Causeway Coast and Glens area.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Mark Fielding, said: “This is a great opportunity for local people with an ICT background who are struggling to find work because of the pandemic.

“Council is committed to developing the Digital, ICT and Software sectors in the Borough, and we want to help deliver high quality employment for everyone. If you fulfil the criteria and are looking to enhance your skills then please consider applying to this programme which offers a qualification as well as valuable work experience.”

NWRC Business Development Executive, Marc McGerty, who is co-ordinating the programme added: “The 12-week Software Testers Programme is fully funded by Department for the Economy and will give participants the skills and qualifications required for a career in software testing as well as a placement with a business in the Causeway Coast and Glens Council area. Applicants ideally will have a Level 4 or higher qualification preferably in an IT discipline or within a STEM area.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions the course will consist of 8 weeks of online learning with NWRC and a 4 week placement. However, elements of the placement may be onsite with the employer subject to mitigation strategies. Successful candidates will be paid £150 per week training allowance for the 12 weeks of the programme.”

NWRC Director of Finance and Economic Engagement, Patrick McKeown, said: “The Graduate Software Testers course is an excellent opportunity for local people in the council area to become qualified software testers. This DfE funded programme is another exciting initiative in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Council, with the college pursuing its strategic goals of supporting local learners, and driving economic growth and job creation across the North West region. “

The closing date to apply is 12 noon on Wednesday 31st March. The programme starts at 9am on Wednesday 7th April 2021 and you must be available for the full 12 weeks.
