One man wears a white sleeveless shirt and teal cap, while the other wears black athletic clothing and holds a bottle, with stone arches and white buildings visible in background.

Liviron sought to develop a coconut-based sparkling drink in a can under its CO+ brand, incorporating a range of functional ingredients to appeal to growing consumer interest in functional beverages. The concept was inspired by emerging trends in the global functional drinks market, with a focus on creating a refreshing product that combined the natural appeal of coconut with added functional benefits.

Challenge

Liviron wanted to develop a coconut-based sparkling drink in a can under its CO+ brand, using different functional ingredients to create a new and appealing product.

Solution

To assist and make their idea a reality, Liviron contacted the NWRC Foodovation team who supported them through the Invest NI Innovation Voucher programme. NWRC Beverages Consultant Linda McClean provided upskilling in product & recipe development, shelf-life evaluation and labelling recommendations.

Impact

Naser from Liviron came to the project with a clear idea of how the drink should be and the market it wishes to compete in. We worked with him to create tangible drinks recipes and have given advice on labelling, how and where to process. On the 1st of April Naser will have 100 cans of two pasteurised carbonated drinks for further market research and sales meetings. The recipes were developed along with Naser and we have worked together to find the best fit based on legislation, feasibility and cost. We wish Liviron the very best in developing the CO+ brand and growing further.

Future

Naser Keenan, Co-Founder of Liviron described the benefits of working with NWRC’s Foodovation Centre via the Invest NI Innovation Voucher programme:
“Linda’s support has been invaluable in helping me develop Co +. I would not have got this far without her guidance, expertise and encouragement. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to work with Linda and use the facilities at the college. She played a huge role in taking the idea from concept to a real product and I cannot thank her enough!”
