Originally opened in 2007 the exhibition presents the history of the Siege of Londonderry and explains the development of the Apprentice Boys Association and the background to the modern celebrations.
Siege Museum
Challenge
The Siege Museum wished to develop a fully interactive 3D VR tour of the museum which would provide a visually rich account of historic events. The aim of the project was to provide schools and visitors with a totally immersive tour of the complex, complete with archive footage and interactive features.
Solution
To assist and make their idea a reality The Siege Museum made contact with North West Regional College (NWRC) Business Support Centre (BSC) who supported them through the InnovateUs programme which is funded by the Department for the Economy.
NWRC Creative Media Consultant, Aaron McKeever, and NWRC VR/AR Technical Consultant, Jim Murray, provided 60 hours of upskilling support in areas such as animation using Adobe Illustrator and shooting 3D 360 footage using the Vuze (360 camera kit).
Impact
On completion of the project with the support of the NWRC and InnovateUs programme the company was able to successfully create both a guided 360 video tour and a 3D interactive tour as a result of this project. The tours will help the museum attract visitors and allow them to generate income as they are still able to give their guided tours digitally.
Future
Stuart Moore, Siege Museum Co-Ordinator, described the benefits of working with NWRC’s Business Support Centre via the InnovateUs programme: ‘’The Siege Museum was delighted to work in conjunction with the NWRC Business Support Centre.
