McNutt of Donegal

Company background:

McNutt of Donegal is an Irish, family-owned business creating the finest natural fibre homewares and fashion accessories using the world’s most luxurious wool and linen yarns in their mill. Established in Downings in 1953, McNutt of Donegal combines decades of expertise and local craftsmanship to create unique and timeless products.

Challenge:

McNutt of Donegal wanted to trial Augmented Reality technology so that customers could colour match and see how the throws look in their homes before purchasing. This Augmented Reality solution would allow customers who visit their website, to scan an image and place a 3D representation of the product in the desired room of their home. McNutt of Donegal had no prior experience in the area of Extended Reality and required support from our XR Hub team to help them understand the technology and its possibilities.

Solution:

To assist and make their idea a reality, McNutt of Donegal contacted the NWRC XR Hub team who supported them through the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher Programme to develop five fully functioning AR prototypes, 5 images which generate the 3D models of their unique throws and a detailed breakdown of AR platforms and costings.

NWRC Creative & Digital Media Technical Consultant Aaron McKeever provided upskilling in AR prototypes, images which generate 3D models and a breakdown of AR platforms and costings.

Impact:

The successful creation of this Web AR tool has allowed McNutt of Donegal to vastly improve their services and offer innovative solutions for their customers. This digital solution allows users to view their products in their own home before purchasing and will be accessible at any time to anyone with a mobile device.

Stacey McNutt, Owner of McNutt of Donegal described the benefits of working with NWRC’s XR Hub via the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher Programme: “Our experience working with Aaron as part of the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher initiative was fantastic from start to finish. Aaron guided us seamlessly through the application process and throughout the project was highly responsive, supportive and delivered the result we had hoped for.”
